The Shard Hosts Interactive Recycling Experience
23 September 2024
newsLast week, The Shard hosted an engaging and educational recycling event in partnership with Recorra, aimed at raising awareness of plastic pollution and promoting proper recycling methods among its occupiers.

The event, held over two to three hours during the lunchtime rush, placed a special focus on the environmental impacts of plastic waste and the need for responsible recycling practices.

Participants were invited to take part in a variety of interactive games designed to make recycling education fun and accessible. The Bins Around the World game showcased different recycling practices from countries across the globe, while the Bin Sorting Game challenged participants to correctly separate various types of waste. Those who successfully completed the quiz were rewarded with an exclusive limited edition Shard tote bag.

A standout feature of the event was Recorra’s demonstration of plastic stools made from sweet wrappers, a type of plastic that is notoriously difficult to recycle. This demonstration not only highlighted the challenges of recycling such materials but also showed how they can be repurposed into functional products, emphasising the importance of innovative recycling solutions. The event also provided a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to The Shard’s waste once it is collected and offered insights into recycling practices from other countries, broadening participants' understanding of global waste management efforts.

By focusing on both education and engagement, The Shard’s recycling experience successfully encouraged occupiers to consider their environmental impact and the role they play in reducing plastic pollution. The hope is that ongoing initiatives like this will continue to raise awareness and drive improvements in recycling efforts at The Shard.
