Sustainability at The Shard Event

2 min read

29th June 2026

Sustainability remains at the heart of The Shard’s ongoing commitment to responsible building management and occupier engagement. Last week, the building welcomed a series of expert partners and local initiatives to showcase how collective action can drive meaningful environmental impact across the estate and beyond.

Leading the session, Head of Sustainability Jane Wakiwaka talked to occupiers about The Shard’s evolving sustainability strategy, highlighting the importance of data-led decision-making and collaboration with businesses in the building. Her insights reinforced the message that meaningful progress is driven not only by infrastructure, but by the behaviours and partnerships that sit behind it.

New Data Insights

Supporting this approach, new supplier GridEdge introduced its innovative platform, offering enhanced visibility into building energy usage. Through intelligent data insights, the system enables more efficient operational performance, helping to identify opportunities to reduce consumption and improve overall energy efficiency. The introduction of this technology marks another step forward in The Shard’s commitment to smarter, more sustainable building management.

Interactive Activities to Educate and Inspire

Reinforcing the importance of day-to-day engagement, recycling partner Recorra brought a hands-on element to the event, hosting interactive activities designed to educate and inspire. Occupiers were invited to test their knowledge through sustainability quizzes and take part in games such as ‘bin pong’, encouraging better understanding of waste segregation in a fun, accessible way. The activation showed how small behavioural changes can contribute to wider environmental goals.

The London Bridge Community

The event also welcomed Team London Bridge, who connected with occupiers to share insights into local initiatives across the neighbourhood. From community-led projects to broader environmental programmes, their presence highlighted the value of engaging beyond the building itself, fostering a more integrated and collaborative approach to sustainability within the wider area.

Working Together for Change

Together, the event demonstrated how The Shard continues to champion a holistic approach to sustainability, combining innovation, education and community engagement. By bringing together partners, occupiers and local organisations, the building is not only driving improvements within its own operations but contributing to a more sustainable future across London Bridge.
