To mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, which took place on Thursday 8th May, The Shard lit up the London skyline with the iconic Union Flag every evening from 6th-8th May.

The display honors one of the most significant moments in modern history, marking the formal end of World War II in Europe on May 8th, 1945. The Shard lit up as a reminder of the celebrations that swept through the country on the historic day.

The Shard joined other landmarks including the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Trafalgar Square, all of which were floodlit on VE Day in 1945, each display created a visual tribute across Central London.

These celebrations culminated in a spectacular flypast over Central London by the world-famous Red Arrows and the Royal Air Force’s aerobatic team, ensuring this year’s VE Day anniversary was truly unforgettable.
