The Shard Lights Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
01 October 2024
Breast Cancer AwarenessThe Shard's spire lights will be glowing pink on the evening of Tuesday 1st October 2024, to mark the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
For the fourth year, The Shard has teamed up with Shangri-La The Shard, London, to shine a light on this important cause.
Throughout October, guests visiting Western Europe’s highest hotel will be greeted with vibrant pink flower inspired décor and can enjoy a series of pink-themed dining experiences. A percentage of the proceeds from Pink Afternoon Tea at TĪNG Restaurant, Pink Sky Brunch on Sundays at Sky Lounge, or the must-try Pink Hope cocktail at GŎNG Bar will be donated to Guy’s Cancer Charity.
This will go towards supporting their pioneering work which offers life-saving treatment to more than 900 patients with breast cancer every year.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with one woman diagnosed every ten minutes. Studies show that 85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer in England will survive by five years or more. This is in part thanks to care and treatment provided by organisations such as Guy’s Cancer.
Pink Afternoon Tea at TĪNG Restaurant and Lounge
Taking centre stage is the popular Pink Afternoon Tea served 35 storeys above the city of London. The pink-hued three tier tea set has been created in collaboration with non-alcoholic beverage company Saicho, showcasing their luxurious, cold-brewed jasmine sparkling tea sourced from the mountains of Funding in China’s Fujian Province.
Guests can delight in a selection of finger sandwiches made with freshly baked beetroot bread filled with coronation chicken, smoked salmon and cucumber, classic Reuben as well as truffle egg and cress. Rose pink scones accompanied by cranberry jam and clotted cream lead into a delightful selection of hand-crafted pastel sweet treats including Peony in Bloom with refreshing chai tea mousse, pear and cardamon, Pink Rocher infused with spiced milk chocolate mousse and zesty mandarin and a fragrant cake infused with Saicho Jasmine, topped with beautiful pink buttercream.
The eye-catching Pretty in Pink pastry filled with chestnut mousse and blackcurrant features a pink ribbon decoration, further raising awareness for the cause. Drawing the experience to a close, a gorgeous miniature pink Shard building also infused with Saicho Jasmine and bergamot will be served over billowing clouds of dry ice.
Accompanying the afternoon tea are a wide selection of Shangri-La signature loose-leaf teas for guests to choose from. For an extra touch of luxury, guests can elevate their experience with a flute of Canard-Duchêne Rosé, Charles VII Cuvée. They can also choose to opt for a Pink Warrior rum-based cocktail including Havana Rum, Cointreau, Gomme Syrup, Lime Juice, Hibiscus tea, and Saicho’s Jasmine sparkling tea.
