Wellness Week at The Shard

The Shard, Wellness Week, News

Shard occupiers take a moment to relax against the most stunning backdrop in London.

As the first autumn chill left summer behind, The Shard’s office occupiers embraced a Wellness Week, from September 12th-16th.

Baskets of crisp green apples in reception set the tone for five days of seminars, events, competitions and workshops.

The event brought together workers from the diverse businesses and organisations that call The Shard home, including Tiffany & Co, Warwick Business School, Matches Fashion and Jellyfish.

After two years of Covid disruption, wellbeing in the workplace is more important than ever, according to Derek Rossenrode, The Shard General Manager.

“Community is an essential element of wellness, and these events strengthen the bonds between the many businesses that operate in our vertical city. They’re an opportunity to get to know the faces you might smile at in the lift every morning.”

Instructors from premium lifestyle gym Third Space led yoga and fitness classes on the 9th floor, against a stunning city backdrop. They also helped workers better understand themselves through body composition tests, an analysis that can guide health and fitness goals.

Occupiers wanting to pep up their look after months of working from home attended an Everyday Work Glam workshop by MAC makeup. While those who wanted something really relaxing opted for aromatherapy from 20A, a breathwork class from The Breath Space, a body butter workshop from Rukai Skincare, a massage from Neal’s Yard Remedies or a facial from Cutters Yard or Modern Health Clinics.

The holistic approach continued with nutrition workshops by SuperWellness and HCA Healthcare UK, a juice giveaway from Mejuicer, and a chance to spin the Farmer J wheel of fortune to win a free lunch.

The Shard architect Renzo Piano designed the building with wellness in mind. The 360-degree aspect ensures that workers enjoy natural light as well as incomparable views for times of reflection. Meanwhile, winter gardens on each floor provide a breakout space to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

Throughout the year, the Shard Quarter team organise social events such as Wellness Week to bring an extra social dimension to working at The Shard.

This year, these have included cocktail making at Aqua Shard, workshops for International Women's Day, and a surprise pizza truck appearance. Office occupiers also benefit from the Shard Card which gives them discounts at local businesses and services, including restaurants and gyms.
