THE WORLD’S BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING AT THE SHARD

The Shard

The Shard occupiers took part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’, raising £1,024 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Keen bakers from The Shard offices’ 34 companies sifted, mixed and iced to donate show stopping cakes and biscuits for the nationwide charity event.

Occupiers gathered on the second floor of The Shard to devour the results, mingle over a cuppa, and give their support to Macmillan.

The proceeds will help the charity offer a broad range of cancer information and support services. These include a free support line and a community of over 7,700 healthcare professionals.

“IT’S BEEN A FANTASTIC DAY - CAKE, COFFEE AND A GREAT RESULT FOR A CHARITY THAT IS CLOSE TO THE HEARTS OF MANY AT THE SHARD. EVENTS LIKE THIS REALLY SHOW OUR VERTICAL CITY’S COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND PROVIDE A FOCUS FOR THE SHARD’S OCCUPIERS TO MEET, SOCIALISE AND WORK TOGETHER.”

Catherine Loeber
Assistant Operations Manager, Shard Quarter

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning took place in 1990, when a handful of people came together for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, and made a donation to Macmillan to help support people living with cancer. This has grown into the ‘The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ with some 200,000 people taking part in homes, schools and offices across the country.

Cancer can affect every aspect of a person’s life, from their day-to-day living and relationships to their finances and mental health. Macmillan is there to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can. Demand for Macmillan’s services is constantly growing, but the charity receives no government funding.
