INFINITY POOL OPENS AS VERTICAL CITY VISION BECOMES A REALITY

Shangri-La Hotel

The opening of an infinity pool 180m above the city at Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London, is the latest exciting development for a building that has burst into life since it opened last year.

While hotel guests have been enjoying swimming lengths in the Skypool in the GŎNG cocktail bar on the 52nd floor, above and below them a vast range of activity is taking place in The Shard as the vision of a Vertical City becomes reality.

More office tenants are moving in every month – Al Jazeera and Arma Partners are the latest firms to take up residence – and the Oblix, Aqua and Hutong restaurants are thriving, with up to 6,000 people a day dining there. A million people a year visit The View from The Shard, and the Shangri-La welcomed its first guests in May, and has since then been receiving rave reviews for its high level of service, and spectacular views.

And The Shard is at the heart of a buzzing area, which has recently been enhanced by staff on the News UK newspapers – The Sun, The Sunday Times and The Times – moving in to the News Building next door over the summer.

There is a huge number of leisure, cultural and social venues – a number that has been recently bolstered by the openings of Hixter, the latest venture from chef-restaurateur Mark Hix, in Bankside and fashionable American-style diner The Breakfast Club on Southwark Street.
