Originating as a feast day honoring early saints named Valentinus, Valentines Day dates back to the 5th century. However, by the 18th century it had evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers and chocolates, and sending greetings cards. THE VIEW FROM THE SHARD
This Valentine's Day, you can enjoy a drink (or two) with your loved one at The View from The Shard, London's highest Champagne bar. Enjoy live music by a roaming saxophonist while you take in the 360 degree view and sample chocolates from Charbonnel et Walker between 1-6pm. If you're looking for the perfect selfie opportunity, head up to the open air sky-deck where there will be a floral heart-shaped arch to frame the perfect photo. SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, AT THE SHARD
The hotel's lounge and restaurant TĪNG, full of classic elegance and breathtaking views, will be serving a special valentine's day menu . The five course set menu comes with optional wine pairing and an additional optional course of oysters. The menu features, gin and tonic cured salmon, duck and foie gras terrine, chateaubriand steak and tarte tatin of roscoff onion. Ending with a choice of white chocolate and lychee mousse or a Neals Yard cheese platter for two. Prices start at £115 per person. On the 32nd floor, oblix east and west will be open for lunch (a la carte menu also available) and dinner. Both Valentine's menus include a glass of champagne on arrival and can be paired with matching wines. Dishes include steak tartare with beef tomato, grilled sourdough and parmesan and truffle as well as bbq black cod with coriander salsa. AQUA SHARD
Join aqua shard for an exclusive Valentine’s Day event on Wednesday 14th February.
