THE SHARD IS PROUD TO SUPPORT MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING
On Wednesday 25 September, The Shard occupiers participated in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ and raised £1,028 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Keen bakers across The Shard mixed, baked and iced delicious treats; and occupiers gathered on the second floor to enjoy the results, mingle over a cup of coffee and donate to UK’s leading cancer charity. Macmillan provides personal, one to one care to thousands of people every day; and are the only charity to support anyone, no matter their age, where they live and or their cancer diagnosis.
“THE ANNUAL MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING EVENT IS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT SUCH A GREAT CAUSE. THE EVENT UNITES AND STRENGTHENS OUR OCCUPIER COMMUNITY WHILST RAISING OVER £1,000 IN JUST UNDER TWO HOURS FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT. A HUGE THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED.”

The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, they did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £200 million for Macmillan.
Macmillan is almost entirely funded by donations and simply cannot support the growing number of people with cancer who need them without the public’s help. Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. There are over 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and this is set to grow to almost 4 million by 2030.
