SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, AT THE SHARD, LONDON LAUNCH THE MODERN COUPLES EXPERIENCE

Shangri-La Hotel

Inspired by the Barbican’s major exhibition, the hotel has launched a new experience for guests.

This Autumn, Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, launched the ‘Modern Couples Experience’ in partnership with the Barbican, London’s world-class arts and learning centre. The pioneering exhibition Modern Couples: Art, Intimacy and the Avant garde is a new take on modern art history, exploring modern love and mutual influence in intimate relationships across painting, sculpture, photography, design and literature. The experience, inspired by the exhibition is available from 10 Oct 2018 through 27 Jan 2019.

This major new exhibition is the first to showcase the creative output of over 40 artist couples active in the first half of the 20th century. The interdisciplinary show features the work of artists, architects and designers from across the world. There is also a display of personal photographs, love letters, gifts and rare archival material from the likes of Dora Maar & Pablo Picasso; Salvador Dalí & Frederico García Lorca; Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera; and many more.

The exhibition and hotel experience invites guests to make the most of the event and enjoy a romantic stay in the capital. Upon checking at the city’s highest hotel, guests are invited to settle in to their luxury room or suite up in the clouds. There they will find a Barbican tote bag containing two tickets to the exhibition and a ‘love map’ detailing a romantic walk from the hotel to the Barbican.

The route of the ‘love map’ takes guests through Borough Markets where scenes from Bridget Jones’s Diary were filmed at the Globe Pub; and past Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre where many romantic plays have captured the hearts of an audience. After heading over Millennium Bridge and taking in the sights of St Paul’s Cathedral where Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married, guests arrive at their destination, the Modern Couples exhibition.

The experience continues back at Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London, where guests are invited to sip on hand-crafted cocktails in the romantic GŎNG Bar, located on level 52 of the hotel in the Shard.

Turning in for the night, guests can relax in a spacious room or suite with interiors that are sleek and sophisticated, blending marble, silk and light wood to create a refined residential atmosphere. High above London, the atmosphere is quiet and serene, yet with the floor-to-ceiling views, you feel intimately connected to the entire city. The experience concludes with breakfast served in the exquisite TĪNG Restaurant and Lounge serviced by Shangri-La’s legendary hospitality.

This offer starts from £555 based on two people sharing and includes:

  • A one-night stay in a luxurious room or suite
