MATHYS & SQUIRE TREBLE NEW BUSINESS WINS FOLLOWING SHARD MOVE
Intellectual Property lawyers Mathys & Squire have trebled their new business wins since moving into The Shard in March 2014.
The patent and trademark specialists report that 44 new clients have been signed up during April, their first full month occupying 28,500 sq ft on floor 15 of Western Europe's tallest building, three times the level achieved in the same month over previous years.
Martin MacLean, Mathys & Squire partner, commented: "We have been delighted by the level of interest our move to The Shard has generated and the increased number of new business enquiries has been most pleasing."
Already several more Shard tenants are in the process of fitting out and moving in, and at The Shard's sister building, The Place, News UK's 3,500 staff will begin moving in next month.
To date 30% of The Shard's 600,000 sq ft office space has now been leased. 2014 has seen a significant uplift in enquiries as momentum begins to build, and prospective tenants appreciate the far reaching benefits of doing business in The Shard and the attraction of its London Bridge Quarter neighbourhood.
Interest is coming from both international companies seeking their first London office or existing businesses that regard London Bridge Quarter as a credible alternative to traditional office locations.
A combination of The Shard's efficient transport links, its inspiring office environment, unrivalled business and local amities, and the appeal of working in an internationally renowned building, are all contributing to The Shard's attraction as an office location.
In addition to strong interest from the business community The Shard has become increasingly popular with the public. More than 1 million have visited The View from The Shard since it opened in February 2013, up to 6,000 people a day visit the building's three award-winning restaurants, and the five-star Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard, opened last week to great acclaim.
Today 65% of the London Bridge Quarter estate is now let while a planning application for the third phase of London Bridge Quarter has now been submitted. This latest phase will comprise a 27-storey residential development and extensive public realm improvements.
