HOW LONDON BRIDGE STATION IS BEING REBORN
Construction is well under way on the London Bridge station redevelopment. Part of a £6.5bn redevelopment project, the regenerated station will drastically improve travel for the 54 million people who journey through it every year – including The Shard workforces who have been able to watch it taking shape from their office windows.
The project has been described by Robin Gisby, the managing director of network operations at Network Rail, as “the most ambitious redevelopment of any London station in a generation” and the positive impact of the work will be felt throughout the local community, including by those based in The Shard.
With part of the concourse scheduled to open in 2016, the transformation of London Bridge, the country’s fourth busiest rail hub, is on target for its 2018 completion date.
Benefits to The Shard tenants will include faster connections across London, improved north/south connections with more trains serving more destinations, and newer trains. The London Bridge area is already the capital’s fastest growing business district, and the fantastic commuter links that the new station will offer will increase its allure to commercial tenants.
