DREAM BIG THIS SUMMER WITH THE BFG DREAM JAR TRAIL

The Shard

It’s time to dream big this summer, and participate in the magical world of The BFG Dream Jar Trail that will launch across the UK and be available to view until 31st August 2016.

The public art installation that has captured the childhood dreams and aspirations of 50 celebrities and corked them into giant Dream Jars almost 6 feet tall have been dotted throughout London and in key locations across the UK. The installation is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world’s number 1 story teller - Roald Dahl, and his world renowned and touching Classic The BFG. The film, directed by Stephen Spielberg will premiere in London on the 17th July.

The famous London landmarks where the jars are to be displayed include  The Shard, the Tower of London, Leicester Square, Harrods and the Emirates Stadium. The story goes that the giant glass jars, which belong to The BFG himself, were mislaid them during one of his night time wanderings delivering dreams to the children of the world.

The unique Dream Jar trail has been jointly organised by Save the Children, the Roald Dahl Literary EstateEntertainment One and VisitLondon.com and supported by Unilever in a capacity to raise money for Save the Children, and support their vital work in some of the toughest places in the world so that every child has the chance to make their dreams come true.

Steven Spielberg, Professor Stephen Hawking, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Graham Norton, Buzz Aldrin, Mark Rylance, Maisie Williams, Naomi Campbell, Richard Branson, the Delevingne sisters, Dame Helen Mirren and many more have shared their dreams and aspirations  and are represented as intricate sculptures within the giant jars. In regards to the creative art installation, Steven Spielberg commented:

“I’M EXCITED TO JOIN THE BFG DREAM JAR TRAIL SO WE CAN ALL SHARE OUR DREAMS TOGETHER. THE BEST PART OF THIS PROJECT IS ITS SUPPORT OF THE VALUABLE WORK THAT SAVE THE CHILDREN DOES IN GIVING KIDS ACROSS THE WORLD THEIR OWN CHANCES TO DREAM BIG.”

Stephen Speilberg
Film Director

Professor Stephen Hawking based his dream jar on the thoughts of an ancient Chinese philosopher, who questioned whether our dreams are actually reality – a question Professor Hawking says can only be answered if we understand more about the universe. He added: “It is so important that everyone has the chance to dream, whatever their age and no matter where they live.”

Graham Norton dreams of simian mayhem; his dream jar featuring a tiny Graham, living with a family of chimps. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall’s dream of sharing the magic of books has been brought to life by the renowned art director Michael Howells. The Duchess said: “The power of a good story is immense. It starts a voyage of discovery into different worlds that broadens and stimulates our minds.

“MY DREAM IS THAT EVERY CHILD LEARNS TO READ AND DISCOVERS THE LIFELONG PLEASURE OF BOOKS.”

The Duchess of Cornwall

Sir Richard Branson always dreamed of being airborne, he said “The dream took many forms, from putting myself in Peter Pan’s shoes, flapping my arms and flying away, to imagining myself as Phileas Fogg and travelling around the world in a hot air balloon.”

The trail and jars are free for the public to view and enjoy before being auctioned in aid of Save the Children and Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, which provides Roald Dahl specialist nurses for seriously ill children in the UK. Tanya Steele, Interim CEO of Save the Children, said: “Changing the world for children means giving them the chance to dream. That’s why Save the Children works in some of the toughest places in the world to make sure every child gets that chance."
