From the latest in innovation at The Design Museum to art exhibitions at The White Cube Gallery, there is a wealth of culture to explore during a lunch breaks or after work. Here's a selection of some of the best culture showcases in and around London Bridge:
DESIGN MUSEUM
The Design Museum hosts a range of talks, tours, exhibitions and workshops happening across the year, catering for an eclectic mix of interests. The annual Designs of the Year exhibition (until 23 August) showcases the best in design talent from the past 12 months, enabling you to discover the design stars of the future.
WHITE CUBE GALLERY
Founded by Jay Jopling and designed by architects Casper Mueller Kneer, White Cube Bermondsey is the largest of the gallery's four sites. As well as art exhibitions, an education programme and an ongoing series of artists' films and lectures take place in the 60-seat auditorium both at lunchtime as well as in the evening. The current exhibition from Christian Rosa (until 23 May) is a pictorial narrative of artistic exploration that creates an emotive, visual experience through abstract painting.
FASHION & TEXTILE MUSEUM
The Fashion and Textile Museum is a hub for contemporary fashion, textiles and jewellery in London Bridge. Founded by British designer Zandra Rhodes, the centre boasts a programme of exhibitions exploring the creative elements and is also home to an Academy which runs courses for creative students and businesses. Current exhibitions include Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic (until 3 May) - the first-ever exhibition on the fashion and interior design of Thea Porter (1927–2000) who pioneered bohemian chic in the 1960s and 1970s.
SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE
Theatre lovers travel from all over the world to be a 'groundling' (standing audience member) at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre – it’s just a 10-minute walk from The Shard. With productions ranging from Shakespeare’s original works to world premières of new writing, a place in the open-air, free-standing Yard is excellent value for a completely authentic theatre experience. Short of time? Make the most of a lunch break with a visit to the Globe exhibition, open five days a week with tickets available on the day.
TATE MODERN
Round off the working week with a short walk to the Tate Modern to see the latest exhibitions and displays or check out the special events that regularly take place. Open until 10pm on a Friday, it’s the perfect opportunity to relax with a drink and explore art after hours on a Friday night. Current displays include an exploration of Cubism, featuring work from artists such as Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso.
