Celebrating the Coronation of King Charles
To celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King, The Shard’s spire will be lit with a special display featuring a Union Flag.
The new light display will be switched on at 20:30BST on the 6th May. Comprising 552 LED lights and fixtures beaming from the top 20 storeys of The Shard at a height of just over 1,000 feet, London’s highest display will appear nightly between sunset and 1:00BST until the 8th May.
The Shard Lights spectacle, created with the help of British lighting designers, Woodroffe Bassett Design, will form part of the ‘Lighting up the Nation’ celebration, which will reflect the joyfulness of millions of people who will be celebrating the Coronation over a weekend of special events.
As a beacon for modern London, The Shard will be joining the celebrations taking place across the country and the world. We are delighted to be displaying what will probably be the highest representation of the Union Flag over this historic weekend and shine a light that reflects unity as we come together as a nation to commemorate the occasion.Michael BakerCEO, Real Estate Management (UK) Limited
In addition to the spire lights display, Shangri-La The Shard, London will be hosting a range of royal activities fit for a king. Through its partnership with Tower of London, guests will have the chance to marvel at the Crown Jewels before a visit to a local distillery to learn about the gin martini, rumoured to be a favourite drink of King Charles. This experience will reveal gin’s deep historical ties to Georgian London, and its connections to royal figures of times past.
Bar 31 will screen the King’s procession and concert that follows, alongside a street party with a special cream tea and Pimm’s cocktails. To end the weekend on a sky-high, guests can head to GŎNG Bar where they will be immersed in a world of "Best of British" pop royalty. The Sky Pool will also be open for guests to relax and unwind, and take in the views of the Capital below.
Aqua Shard will serve its special, coronation brunch from Saturday 6th to Monday 8th May, where guests will be serenaded by a string quartet. Alongside live entertainment, a cocktail and dessert will accompany the festivities inspired by the King’s love of British wildlife. Each guest who orders a Coronation cocktail will be gifted a bespoke coronation celebration wildflower seed packet.
Workers at The Shard will have the opportunity to visit a special Coronation inspired village fete event on one of the floors, which will feature a vintage tea party and prize draw.
