Celebrate Chinese New Year with Hutong

February 01, 2022Hutong

Guests are invited to join Hutong to celebrate Chinese New Year on Tuesday 1st February. Sifu (meaning 'master' in traditional Chinese culture) Fei Wang has designed a delicious five-course ‘Year of the Tiger’ menu for £125pp.

Available on the 1st Feb, dishes include the traditional Lo Hei (撈起) salad alongside Scallop & prawn wonton with hot & sour soup and Hutong’s famous Roasted Peking duck with homemade pancakes and Hoisin sauce. The Lo Hei is a prosperity-bringing dish eaten at Chinese New Year. According to tradition, each ingredient added represents a blessing such as good health, wealth and happiness. The host of the table adds the condiments in order and the table tosses the salad, calling out “Lo Hei!” which means “to mix it up”. The higher the ingredients are tossed and mixed, the more prosperity it is warranted to bring.

Lion dancers and a Chinese calligrapher will perform throughout the evening’s festivities whilst the Shanghai Bar will be serving a special cocktail inspired by the Year of Tiger. The cocktail will be available at all Hutong sites globally topped with a personalised tiger, designed for its respective city (red for London). The “Year of the Tiger” is a combination of Don Julio Blanco, nigori sake, mandarin puree, lime juice, and pepper honey £17 and will be available from the 31st January (Reunion Dinner) until 15th February (Red Lantern Festival).

The restaurant is named after Beijing’s ancient hutongs – the now fast-disappearing narrow lanes which crisscrossed the city revealing its old family houses, their grand courtyards and life within. Signature dishes include Red Lantern soft-shell crab and Crispy de-boned lamb ribs as well as Roasted Peking duck, considered by many to be the best in London. Hutong’s beautiful Shanghai Bar is the perfect place for cocktails before or after dinner.
