Last week, The Shard’s reception was transformed into a vibrant showcase of colour and creativity as artist and Shard Quarter team member Gustavo Villegas returned with a new collection of paintings created especially for The Shard.
Gustavo, who has been part of the team at The Shard for many years, has built a growing reputation for his colourful and expressive paintings. His latest collection offered occupiers the opportunity to experience his work up close, bringing his distinctive artistic style into the heart of the building.

Gustavo’s connection with The Shard extends beyond his role within the building. The landmark has become a recurring source of inspiration for his artwork, alongside the landscapes, memories and experiences that have shaped his life.
Originally from Colombia, Gustavo began painting at a young age before stepping away from art for many years. His passion was reignited during the pandemic, when he returned to painting and began developing his distinctive style. Since then, his artistic journey has taken an unexpected turn.
His work has been exhibited and featured in projects connected to The Shard, including his artwork inspiring the building’s 2025 Christmas light display.
The September exhibition brought together a selection of Gustavo’s latest paintings, displayed in the office reception.
Filled with colour, movement and character, the works offered a different perspective on the familiar surroundings of The Shard. For occupiers passing through reception, the exhibition provided an opportunity to pause and discover the work of someone who is already a familiar part of the building’s community.
The exhibition also celebrated the creative talent found within The Shard, highlighting how the people who work behind the scenes can bring unexpected talents and stories to the wider occupier community.

Bringing Gustavo’s paintings into the reception created an informal gallery within one of The Shard’s busiest spaces.
For occupiers, it was a chance to experience original artwork as part of their everyday working environment, while for Gustavo, exhibiting a new collection in the building that has played such an important role in his artistic journey offered another milestone in his continuing creative story.
The exhibition forms part of The Shard’s ongoing programme of cultural and community initiatives, bringing art, creativity and new experiences into the everyday life of the building.
