The Place Construction Contract Awarded to Mace.
London Bridge Quarter Ltd announces it has awarded the second and final phase construction contract of its £2bn regeneration project adjacent to London Bridge Station to Mace.
The contract covers the construction of The Place at London Bridge Quarter, a 17-storey office building designed by Renzo Piano, a piazza that links LBP to the Shard, major improvements to London Bridge Station, including a new bus station, a new rail station concourse, together with new escalator links to London Bridge underground station.
The Place is to be built on the site of a former Richard Seifert-designed 1960's office tower which is currently nearing the end of its demolition. On completion in early 2013 LBP will provide 428,000 sq ft net (40,000 sq m) of high quality Grade A office accommodation with typical floors of around 30,000 sq ft. In addition the development will also include approximately 9,000 sq ft of retail space.
Pre-construction works on the site are already underway and it is anticipated that construction of The Place will commence in September 2010 with completion to shell and core during Q1 2013.
Work on creating a 21st Century station concourse and an integrated bus and taxi interchange is expected to be completed during 2012, while construction of the Shard will complete in Q2 2012.
A spokesman for Sellar Property Group, LBQ's developer/manager and shareholder, said: "We are delighted to have agreed terms on behalf of LBQ Ltd over the construction of the second and final phase of this landmark development. It allows for a fully integrated approach to the building programme which we believe will act as a major catalyst to the regeneration of this part of Southwark."
